Cooking with Integers

Last week I found a new obsession - The Teaching Channel.  This website is awesome to get new ideas!  I went to just look around on the website and found a lesson on integers that is awesome!  I can't seem to embed the video so I guess we just have to settle on a link.

From this video (that even supplies a lesson plan!) I created a flipchart to use during the lesson.

The flipchart has 20 interactive slides to go through the cooking scenario.  If you have ActiveInspire you can download the Flipchart from my Google docs.

I placed my activity sheets in my google documents.  Click HERE for the addition/multiplication worksheet and HERE for the subtraction sheet.  I used the same subtraction worksheet from the lesson plan downloaded from The Teaching Channel.

To end this post I would like to leave you with this fun rap video.  I can't wait to show my kids!

  1. I just stumbled upon your blog and I'm going through all your posts and this one is super insightful as I had a Lot of trouble teaching integers to my 6th graders last year. I would love to be able to see your flipchart, but I don't have ActiveInspire and when I try to download it my computer says it can't.
    :(
Is there any other way I can see it?

    1. Unfortunately my flash drive with the flip chart is in my desk at school. If you email me closer the the school year (end of August) I can screen shot each slide so you can see the whole flip chart! Thanks for taking interest in my blog :)
